Kedarkantha Trek Route

Day 01: Arrival to Sankri.

  • Altitude 6,400 Ft.
  • Distance Drive: 220km | 10-11 hours

Our journey begins in Dehradun, where we seek him at 6:00 am. Be sure to reach the collection point. Then we drive to Sankri, which is 220 km from Dehradun. The journey may take about 10 hours or more due to mountainous ground, but provides fantastic nature along the way.

During the trip, we will go through beautiful places like Mussorie, Mori and Naitwar. You will appreciate the view of Yamuna and tonne rivers, aligned with pine trees. The river changes white milk in some areas to clean green in others. The fresh pine and the wonderful natural beauty will make the long journey to Sankri Vale. The last 22 km of the road, when you enter Govind National Park, is especially charming, home of various flora and fauna.

When we arrived at Sankri, we checked into our hotel. After refreshing, you have the night to explore the charming village of Sankri in your free time. You can take a walk around this charming village, known as a tractor center, as it acts as the base camp for 11 Himalayan tours, including the popular Ki Dun Trek. Although Sankri has coverage of the Jio network, it is quite reliable. There is also a brilliant sunset backdrop to the Himalayas in the village, which is great to be captured by photography lovers. Your dinner option may be to dine in your hotel or sample the local taste in the village of Dhabas close to your hotel. Go at night in Sankri, when we started the trip the next day.

Day 02: Sankri to Juda ka Talab by Trek.

  • Altitude: 9,100 ft.
  • Trek Distance: 4-5 km | 5-6 hours

The trip to the Kedarkantha summit begins in Sankri, our base town, and today we are going to Juda Ka Talab, a fantastic Alpine Lake. After an early breakfast, we start the trip to the sea, which is at a height of 9,100 feet and about 4-5 km away. It will take about 5 hours to arrive. We will move away from Sankri and will go through the extension of the village of Saur and walk next to a stream before entering a forest with pine and edge trees. The trail rises sharply, and we will cross different suspension bridges and small mountain towns on the way to Juda Ka Talab.

The path today is wide and rises gradually for about 2-3 hours. In the summer, the path is lush with vegetation and a dot of wild flowers, while in winter it is covered by the snow, and potentially requires bread. On the way up you can sneak a peek of the wild life such as the the frightening long haired wild boar, Leres, and Martens. Juda Ka Talab camp is a scenic camp featuring an alpine lake on one side and pine forest on the other side making the place looking like a surreal world. The winter changes the lake into a patchwork with it being frozen to form an ideal picture. The lake is said to be created by the drops of water (fallen off the hair on Lord Shiva), and the local people declared it to be the sacred site of worship.

We camp here at night. You can take beautiful pictures and enjoy going through nature. At night, it collects around a fire to enjoy dinner and warm drinks, share stories with others. The night sky here is fantastic with stars and offers a perfect view before you pull in your tent.

Day 03: Juda ka Talab to the base of Kedarkantha.

  • Altitude: 9,100 ft.
  • Distance Taken: 4km | 2.5 hours

We wake up early in the morning and have a wonderful hot breakfast and a beautiful sunrise. Then we climbed through Kedarkantha Base Camp at an altitude of 10,100 feet. The well-marked trail ensures easy navigation.

We go through aforested detachment of pine and oak which finally spreads to rich meadows, strewn with pastor cabins. There will be nothing short to pamper you on the way with sheer excursion of the Swargrohini, Bandarpoonch, Ranganna and Kala Nag peaks. beautiful mountains are the gem of natures which creates unforgettable and inspiring sensation.

Kedarkantha trail is fairly easy and can be attempted by beginners. This is nice to all because it is not demanding as other journeys even during winter top. In summer the way is also green and juicy. At the camp you have an opportunity to rest, you can walk a little bit and have dinner which is hot and you can be surprised at the lots of shining stars in the sky. This height can be very cold and therefore it is important to remember that you need to dress in layers. Rest early in your tent to prepare yourself for the summit the following day.

Day 04: 2 Trek, which will include Kedarkantha Base Camp to Kedarkantha, and back to Kedarkantha Base Camp.

  • Altitude-12, 500 ft.
  • Trek Distance: 6 km | 6-7hrs

We arrive today at the summit of Kedarchantha of 12,500 feet. We will subtract the base camp at the top and rear and cover a total distance of about 6 km, which will take about 7 hours.

After a solid breakfast, we will put it over. The preliminary trail is a gradual climb, but it gets steep when we approach the top, and challenges your fitness and trekking skills. We started through a forest with tall oak and pine trees, the floor covered with leaves and the weak sound of the nearby streams. As we rise spring the forest, we enter the summit, which is steep. Nevertheless, the labor is compensated by magnificent sceneries of the peak that makes one feel like at the top of the world. The difficult climb is refreshed by the panoramic view of the Himalayas. On top there will also be a little temple of lord Shiva, goddess Parvati and lord Ganesha.

After appreciating the wonderful nature and enjoying the silent atmosphere of the summit, we descended to the base camp for lunch. After lunch, we continued to fall into the Kedarkantha base. The descent is simpler and faster, and soon we will return to the basic camp, where we set up the camp. Spend a good dinner and sleep in your tent at night.

Day 05: Base camp, Kedarkantha to Sankri.

Our last stage of making turns on the way down to Sankri starts at the Kedarkantha base. Wake up early, watch the beautiful sun rising at Himalayas and have a nice breakfast. We shall then begin our downslope to Sankri passing by forests and crossing some of the trickling streams here you can fill up your water bottle.

The forest descends on a range of mountains with panoramic views of Ki Dun Valley, which is covered in green slopes as we are going down. If our descent continues, the forest grows closer before it finally opens in Sankri. On arrival we will be checking into our hotel. You will be able to spend the night in time to explore the village after cooling down. In Sankri there are few shops where you can purchase as reminiscent wood works, toys, and home decoration. Living among the locals: Interact with locals in order to know more about their life style. There are about 120 families residing in wooden shacks in the village, and their sources of crops are potatoes, rice and apples. There also exist normal fairs in Sankri, where the common man happens to sing and dance to the folk music.

You may opt to have dinner within a local Dhaba or in your hotel. Take a relaxing night in the hotel after an enriching yet tiresome trip.

Day 06: Departure from Sankri.

And on the final day of our beautiful walk, we shall get back to Dehradun leaving behind with us loads of beautiful memories of this adventure.
