The trek begins from the serene village of Chopta, often referred to as the “Mini Switzerland of India” due to its lush green meadows and stunning mountain views. From Chopta, the trail ascends gently through dense forests and meadows, leading to the sacred Tungnath Temple. This temple is one of the Panch Kedar and holds significant religious importance.
After paying respects at the temple, trekkers can continue to Chandrashila peak. The ascent to Chandrashila is steeper, but the reward at the top is a panoramic view that encompasses several of the highest peaks in the Indian Himalayas. On clear days, you can see Nanda Devi, Trishul, Kedar Peak, Bandarpunch, and Chaukhamba.
The entire trek can be completed in two to three days, making it a perfect short adventure. The trail is well-maintained and marked, with stone-paved paths and steps leading up to the temple and summit.
