A terror attack that took place recently in Pahalgam temporarily dimmed the boom of the tourism industry in Kashmir, rattling the nerves of travelers as well as businesses in the area. Kashmir has been quiet since the incident, after being full of tourists venturing to discover the treks, gardens, and sacred shrines. But, in this state of confusion, a major push is being made by all and sundry to get this dream destination back on track as far as safety, trust, and impetus are concerned.
Hotel bookings, flight tickets, and tourist visits have reduced significantly after the attack in April 2025 in Pahalgam. Travel agents say that there is a massive cancellation, and airline operators have sought a waiver on user charges at Srinagar airport as it is not being utilized properly. The occupancy in Srinagar and Pahalgam has fallen to less than 20 per cent, and various packages to the popular treks, such as Tarsar Marsar, Kashmir Great Lakes, and Lidderwat Trek, have been postponed.
In spite of these developments, June had significant changes that were made to regain confidence. Prime Minister Narendra Modi dedicated to 37,000 crore railway network in Jammu & Kashmir, which includes the highest railway bridge in the world across the Chenab River. There are two new Vande Bharat Express trains that have linked Srinagar and Katra, thereby providing the tourists with easier access to both picturesque and pilgrimage locations.
Tour operators, airlines, and hotel associations have joined hands, and slogans such as “Let us go to J&K” and “Back to the Valley” have been started to rejuvenate Kashmir tourism. The industry is swinging back with a vengeance, whether it is up to 50 per cent off stays, or familiarization (FAM) tours being planned with agents and travel influencers.
A series of events from June 13 to 16, one of them being a safety inspection tour by pan-India travel agents, is expected to demonstrate that Kashmir is a viable, beautiful, and safe destination to visit.
Improved security has already been implemented in all key tourist areas, especially in Pahalgam, Sonamarg, and Gulmarg. With the Amarnath Yatra 2025 in the offing, the government is leaving no stone unturned to ensure the safety of pilgrimage routes and to put the spiritual and adventure tourists at ease.
At Shree Kedar Yatra, we believe that travel is the heartbeat of healing. Trails of Tarsar Marsar, KGL Trek, Thajiwas Glacier, and Aru Valley are gorgeous and secure, and homestays, local guides, and porters are eager to greet you with their matchless hospitality.
Well, Kashmir suffered a loss. But it is a place that has ever bounced back and back - through its folks, its loveliness, and the heart of those who trust in it.
Whether you are going to visit or not, be responsible in your choice, be informed, and make a difference by trekking ethically and staying with local hosts. Since you do not simply visit Kashmir, you are cured with it when you step in.
